Training On The Use Of Turnitin For Plagiarism Checking

Turnitin is an online-based plagiarism detection software. Most universities worldwide use it for publishing their teachers’ and students’ research publications, grant proposals, theses, and dissertations. In Bangladesh, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) is the first university to develop a usage policy start using Turnitin to check plagiarism in research writings. The goal is to publish world-class research papers.

Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has organized a four-day long training on “The use of Turnitin for Plagiarism Checking.” All teachers registered online were invited for this training.

Honorable Vice-Chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed was the chief guest of the training program held at the conference room of IQAC on 23 & 27 September, 6 October, and 7 November 2021.

Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of the workshop, Professor Ahmed said, “We want to make SUST a role model university inside and beyond the country. With that goal in mind, we have begun using Plagiarism checking software with individual teachers’ access to the checking software system with unique ID and Password. We are the only university in Bangladesh that has a plagiarism policy for research. Professor Ahmed thanked IQAC for its contribution to various developmental works of the university, including the current effort thorugh the training for the university’s faculty members.”

Speaking as the special guest, Professor Dr. Md Anwarul Islam, Treasurer of SUST, said, “Not only in research, all teachers need to be accurate in their responsibilities and jobs. And the ongoing training will surely help the faculty members to focus on their responsibilities with further accuracy.”

Besides, Professor Dr. S M Saiful Islam, Director, University Research Center, SUST, and Professor Dr. Md Monirul Islam, Department of Business Administration, SUST were present as resource persons who have conducted the technical sessions.

IQAC Director Professor Dr. M Ashraful Alam presided over this program while Additional Director of IQAC Mr. Ishrat Ibne Ismail coordinated the program.
